Abstract
Congenital bronchoesophageal fistula(CBF) is a rare anomaly that is difficult to be diagnosed in childhood. CBF is a spectrum of communicating bronchopulmonary foregut malformations(CBPFMs0. We experienced a case of CBF in a 14 month old boy who
had
persistent pulmonary infections that had not been improved since he was 8 months old. Chest CT revealed multiple enlargement of lymph node and posterior mediastinal mass in right upper thorax. Thoractomy was done for biopsy or mass resection. The
fistulous communication was from the mid-esophagus to the posterior segmental bronchus of right upper lobe. An isolated posterior segment of right lobe was supplied by the pulmonary artery. Multiple enlarged lymph nodes of right posterior
mediastinum
showed inflammation and reactive hyperplasia without evidence of malignancies. Our case can be classified to CBPFMs Group 3. CBPFMs should be considered as a cause in any children with respiratory distress and persistent or recurrent pneumonia.
